Beyond Survival: Leaning Into COVID-19 To Get Canada Back To Growth
In this keynote presentation, Canadian Business Growth Fund CEO, George Rossolatos will share his view of the effects of COVID-19 on the Canadian mid-market and how it affected raising capital for entrepreneurs. During this unprecedented time, CBGF also faced its own challenges as did other PE/VC firms across the nation. He will share the background to CBGF’s decision to “lean in” and support Canadian businesses as our country copes with the effect of COVID-19. George will also share some stories of strength and resilience he’s heard from businesses across the country, and explain what all Canadians can do to support our entrepreneurs as Canadian companies prepare to move past simple survival, and get back to growth once again.

ACG is pleased to welcome Alex Trisoglio (Adjunct Professor, Organizational Behaviour & Human Resources Division, at UBC Sauder School of Business) and Robert Beattie (BMO Senior Vice President & Head, British Columbia) as key note speakers for the second growth series webinar.

Alex brings a broad academic and professional background to ACG. Alex plans to share his experience around mindfulness for leaders. We have all faced new challenges this year and Alex will share ways to help us regulate emotion, maintain focus, adapt to change and build trust in the new working environment. Alex holds a MA (University of Cambridge), PhD (University of London) and is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (London Business School).

Robert has held senior roles with BMO since 2004 and previously ran a high-yield debt fund for a leading Canadian media company. The Third Wave – Current topics in insolvency

The past couple of years of a sustained period of business growth has been an era of both great returns for sellers in M&A transactions, and great speculation of when the market would reach its peak and begin a downward trend.  Typically, these turns in market conditions are marked by increased activity and opportunity in insolvency scenarios.  The COVID-19 pandemic has hastened a downturn in overall economic activity, and accelerated an increase in insolvency activity.  Our panel will explore current topics in insolvency, including an overview of the current landscape, emerging deal structures and trends, and potential opportunities for Canadian investors in industries such as cannabis, retail and others.

Panel Members:

Gabriel De Alba, Managing Director & Partner, The Catalyst Capital Group Inc.
Michelle Grant, Deals Partner, PwC Canada
Huey Lee, Partner, KPMG
John Sandrelli, Partner, Dentons
Hayley Woodin, Business Reporter, Business in Vancouver (moderator)
